CREATING LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES
ROOTED IN EVERYDAY MAGIC
A nature-based home program designed for children to engage in the world around them
I believe nature-based education connects awareness of self, family, community, and nature through empathy and understanding.
Laura’s Nature School LLC has been supporting children in nature-based education for over 25 years. Here, we nurture a love of the outdoors and spark joyful learning that follows children for a lifetime. I believe early childhood should be a season of wonder, unhurried, magical, and full of discovery. I’m a strong advocate of child-led education outdoors, where children can explore, create, and grow into the fullest expression of their creative, intellectual, and social selves. At Laura’s Nature School LLC, learning isn’t rushed, it’s lived!
Research shows that children excel when they can imagine and create in a supportive, nurturing environment free from unrealistic expectations, frequent transitions, and extremely firm schedules.
Early childhood should be magical, with plenty of space for dreaming. Young children develop self-awareness naturally when they believe in themselves. Magic occurs when children are allowed to make decisions, share ideas, and gently learn from challenges. They will thrive from understanding boundaries and freely expressing their emotions in a safe and validating environment that supports a healthy sense of self.
When children feel safe and respected, they will take risks, ask questions, trust, and learn to express their feelings properly to others.
This scaffolding of achievements is how children build confidence in themselves and their abilities and show the same compassion toward others.
An inclusive environment is formed with a foundation in understanding self, empathy for others, respect for the world, and love of all living things.
To maintain the integrity of a nature, play-based educational philosophy, I do not offer the rigorous academic structure required by the state's Universal Pre-K program.
My journey began when I discovered my love of early education and opened my first early learning program in Longmont. I went to school and received my Associate’s Degree and Director Certificate in Early Childhood Education. I utilized all that I learned and transitioned my program into the play-based, Reggio Emilia nature school I have today.
My goals are to create inspiration for a love of the natural world, support a positive sense of self, and for children to recognize their gifts as an important part of a broader but inclusive community.
Wonder is the desire or curiosity to know something... feel admiration and amazement.... to marvel.
“We feel incredibly fortunate to have found Laura’s Learn and Play Nature School for our daughter. From the moment we walked in, we could see the love, care, and thoughtfulness that Laura puts into creating a nurturing and engaging environment.
Laura has a natural gift for working with children, fostering curiosity, creativity, and confidence in a way that feels both structured and organic. The nature-based approach has been a perfect fit for our little one—she comes home excited about what she’s learned, whether it’s exploring the outdoors, engaging in hands-on activities, or developing social skills through thoughtful play.
Beyond the enriching curriculum, Laura’s warmth and attentiveness make her truly special. She takes the time to understand each child’s unique personality and needs, ensuring they feel safe, supported, and encouraged. It’s evident that she genuinely cares for every child in her program, and we have complete trust in her as a caregiver and educator.
We wholeheartedly recommend Laura’s Learn and Play to any family looking for a high-quality, nature-inspired learning experience. Thank you, Laura, for creating such a wonderful space where children can thrive!”
